Eco Resort Miano — Larger Eco Room for up to 5 People
Redi Doti sits on the Suriname River, an Indigenous village where the day keeps its own pace. What wakes you isn't traffic but the forest itself. Your neighbours here are Carib and Arawak families whose roots in this place go back generations, and you arrive not as a passing visitor but as a guest of the community.
The rooms at Eco Resort Miano are built on the back-to-basics idea: clean, straightforward, nothing more than you need. What matters happens the moment you step outside.
There are bicycles for the surrounding roads, a guide who'll take you out on the river, and someone who'll show you how cassava bread is made. Cycle a little further and you reach Jodensavanne, once the centre of the largest Jewish plantation community in the Americas, where the forest has spent two centuries growing back over what's left. Pierre Kondre is close by too: Uncle Ferdinand's pineapple plantation, and Coöperatie Asajaka Weno, where those pineapples become the juices that keep the village running.
Afternoons here belong to the heat. You wait it out in the pool, or take the seven-minute walk down to the village beach and let the river do the work. Evenings are for the resort's kitchen, where the cooking is Surinamese and the portions assume you've had a long day, and afterwards for the bar. Some nights a group performs traditional dance and music in Indigenous dress. You can't plan for it, which is rather the point.

Fantastisch.

Standard Eco Room
In the Indigenous village of Redi Doti, on the Suriname River, time runs a little differently. The morning sound isn't traffic, it's the rainforest. The neighbours are Carib and Arawak families who have lived here for generations. And you're not just a tourist here. You're a guest of the community.

Two-bedroom apartment
Turquoise walls, bamboo blinds and a covered terrace with a hammock. Nosa's Guesthouse isn't a hotel, it's a place that feels like having a house of your own in Paramaribo. Years ago the owner, Mariëlle, lived here with her family. After they moved she decided to keep the property, first renting it to locals, later converting it for holidaymakers. It took a major renovation, but her creativity did the rest. Three self-contained spaces came out of it, each with complete privacy. The name Nosa's Guesthouse comes from her daughter Inoça's pet name, and Inoça still lives in the rear apartment. A familiar face if you need anything, without being on top of you. The front garden is shared. The rest is entirely yours.
