Paramaribo on foot
Where every street has a story
Paramaribo isn't a city you experience from a minibus. You walk through it, you smell the spices at the market, you feel the warm wind off the Waterkant, and you stop for a moment at a place of worship that has stood beside its neighbours for centuries. Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, Christian, all on the same street, all simply side by side. That's Paramaribo. In three hours this walking tour takes you along the places that make this UNESCO World Heritage site what it is.
What the tour looks like:
- Hotel pick-up — your guide is waiting for you and the tour starts right away.
- Independence Square — the heart of the city, surrounded by colonial architecture that has stood here gleaming in the tropical sun for centuries.
- Presidential Palace — imposing, white and full of history. Your guide tells you the story behind the facade.
- Fort Zeelandia — on the bank of the Suriname River, where Paramaribo began. Here you understand why the city is the way it is.
- The central market — colours, smells and sound. This is the real Paramaribo, unfiltered.
- Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral — the largest wooden church in the western hemisphere. Just wood. And magnificent. Please note: closed shoes, covered shoulders and long trousers are required to enter the cathedral.
The order and content of the activities may vary depending on weather or other conditions on the day. Your guide adjusts the programme where needed, always with your safety and experience in mind.

Dolphins in the Suriname River
Somewhere in the late afternoon, when the heat of the day softens and the Suriname River starts to turn gold, you set out by river boat. What happens next is hard to plan for, but there's a good chance dolphins will surface. Playful, close by and entirely at ease. This isn't a zoo. This is simply their river.

Villa Claus-Casimir, colonial style
You don't have to choose between being in the city and sleeping well. At Villa Claus-Casimir you get both. This colonial-style villa sits in the middle of downtown Paramaribo, within walking distance of the best restaurants and bars in the city, and yet the moment the gate closes behind you it's as if the world pauses for a while.
