Galibi — When the turtles come
Two or three days on Indigenous land at the mouth of the Marowijne river
On the far north-east coast of Suriname, where the Marowijne river runs into the Atlantic, lie Christiaankondre and Langamankondre. Two Indigenous villages founded around 1863, with around 800 inhabitants between them, and one of the few places in the world where sea turtles still come ashore in numbers to nest. Galibi asks nothing of you except that you're ready to watch. Nature does the rest.
You choose how long you stay. Two days for a first impression. Three days for anyone who wants to go deeper.
What you do on both tours:
- Village walk — your guide takes you through Christiaankondre and Langamankondre. Two villages, each with its own captain and a living bond with this land going back centuries.
- Watching sea turtles — in the dark, with no lights and no flash, the turtles come out of the water. They lay their eggs and disappear back into the sea. Not a sight you forget in a hurry. Bring a torch or a red light for the night walk.
- French Guiana — a short crossing to the other side for a visit to a museum and the local market. A surprisingly different view of the same region, a stone's throw away.
What's extra on the 3-day tour:
- Cultural performance — the local community closes one of the evenings with a performance showing what has been passed down here for generations.
- Tijgerbank tour — an excursion to the Tijgerbank sandbank, subject to conditions on the day.
Included in both tours:
Transport Paramaribo-Albina both ways, boat Albina-Galibi both ways, accommodation, all meals and all activities.
Not included:
Personal expenses and drinks outside the programme.
The order and content of the activities may vary depending on weather or other conditions on the day. Your guide adjusts the programme where needed, always with your safety and experience in mind.

Coastal road to the big lake
The west of Suriname isn't a destination for anyone in a hurry. You drive through it past coconut palms, open polders and a coastline most visitors never see. First two days in Coronie, the quietest district in the country, where beekeepers tell you about honey and local guides take you along gardens and sea dykes. Then further west to Bigi Pan, 135,000 hectares of lake full of birds, mangroves and caimans in the dark. Two destinations worth the trip on their own, but together they make a journey that stays with you.

Paramaribo on foot
Paramaribo isn't a city you experience from a minibus. You walk through it, you smell the spices at the market, you feel the warm wind off the Waterkant, and you stop for a moment at a place of worship that has stood beside its neighbours for centuries. Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, Christian, all on the same street, all simply side by side. That's Paramaribo. In three hours this walking tour takes you along the places that make this UNESCO World Heritage site what it is.
