Deluxe Double Room
For 2 people — quiet by the water, surrounded by green
Across the Suriname River, just beyond Paramaribo, Sutopia Resort sits tucked into the green of Meerzorg. No city noise, no rush — but a pool among the palms, a hammock camp in the shade and a tropical garden that wakes slowly in the morning.
The apartment for two sits in the middle of that garden, right by the pool. A comfortable double bed with air conditioning, your own bathroom with hot water and a fully equipped kitchen. But the best spot is the veranda — that’s where you drink your coffee, look out over the green and decide you don’t have to go anywhere today.

Kayaking in Peperpot Nature Park
A stone's throw from Paramaribo, on the bank of the Commewijne river, lies Peperpot Nature Park. What were once coffee plantations are now dense rainforest, overgrown by nature that has had decades to do as it pleases. Moriche palms, fruit trees, winding waterways and a biodiversity that quietens even experienced naturalists: around 40 per cent of all bird species in Suriname have been recorded here. And that's before counting the sloths, the monkeys and the rarer reptiles. On a kayak you get exactly close enough.

Peperpot Nature Park hiking tour
Peperpot Nature Park reveals itself best the way that takes the longest: on foot. Along paths once walked by plantation workers, now overgrown and reclaimed by the forest. Every step turns up something else — a sloth looking down at you from the branches, a frog leaping clear, the smell of wet earth after rain. Around 40 per cent of all bird species in Suriname have been recorded here, but you only really notice that when you stand still and listen.
